The 458 Spider is powered by Ferrari's atmospheric, direct injection 4.5-liter V8, which was nominated for the '2011 International Engine of the Year "for its quality engineering in the areas of driveability, performance, usage and sophistication. Power is transmitted through the road leading Ferrari's F1 gearbox with double clutch and shift paddles on an advanced E-Diff, which is integrated with the F1-Trac traction control system and a high-performance ABS system for maximum handling performance.

Several features of the car, including the mapping of the accelerator and the damping of the multi-link suspension are calibrated for maximum sportiness and driving pleasure with a hood down, in line with the tradition of exclusive spiders from Maranello. Even the engine noise is adjusted to ensure that the occupants of the car is involved in the open driving experience.

For maximum comfort with the hood down the 458 Spider is a generously proportioned with adjustable electric wind stopper. The design was perfected to the wind in the interior to reduce and spread, creating a conversation at normal voice levels even at speeds above 200 km / h possible.
